POWERING THROUGH
Energy Resilience Planning
from Grid to Government

Disruptions to our energy system are becoming more frequent, and more severe.  With the next major storm or infrastructure failure around the corner, institutional administrators, utility planners, and policy makers are all looking for ways to keep people safe and communities operational when the lights go out.  Powering Through walks readers through the threats facing our energy system, and how to counter those threats before, during, and after an outage event. The book addresses three key actors in the energy system: institutional energy managers, electric utilities, and government actors.  The authors illustrate the unique challenges facing each, and how their coordinated action is required to make the energy system as a whole ready for the threats that are facing it .

ENERGY RESILIENT BUILDINGS AND COMMUNITIES:
A PRACTICAL GUIDE

Although threats to the energy system are the result of global climate change and national policy making, the effects of power outages are inevitably felt locally, inside a hospital trying to keep its equipment running, or a town trying to ensure its residence are safe from the heat or cold.  In addition to these vulnerabilities, local institutions also have special advantages when seeking to improve their resilience.   Energy Resilient Buildings and Communities describes a pragmatic plan for improving the energy resilience of institutions that cannot afford to suspend their operations due to outage.  The book is organized around a set of case studies, providing real world examples of energy resilience challenges and achievements in a variety of settings, including hospitals, colleges, military installations and municipalities.
